As I’m writing this, I think back to being a kid. If you’re like me then you were probably anxious to grow up and do adult things. You definitely give it your all as a kid too. But there are things in life you just aren’t able to rush. Patiently waiting for experience and growth is essential to living the life we think we want. Furthermore, you’re going to need to learn to walk before you can run and so on. On a personal note, I wanted to remarry and find a special person for almost 20 years. However, in hindsight, I wasn’t ready because certain things had to fall into place for God’s timing to line up with my own. It was during this patience building process I took my own advice to ‘give it your all’ and had some amazing changes. This led to growth I never anticipated.

When you find your reasons, this can help you give it your all in life. But what are ‘reasons’? Well, the reasons are the “why” and the fuel that keeps you going. Maybe you’re a single parent with a child that gets you up in the morning. Or it’s possible you’re just want a better life for yourself. These are the times that an inventory of your life can come in handy. Basically, you can benefit from making a list of assets and liabilities. So, what are your strengths and weaknesses? I like this quote by Dolly Parton. Basically, it speaks to the uncertainty and need for change that life will throw your way. So, you give it your all and be open to options and unexpected twists in the road. If something doesn’t pan out, try not to get discouraged. I’ve learned to stay away from black and white outcomes or staying too ridged on how my life should go. Because when you don’t get the result, you were looking for, expectations can fail, and frustration can result. Early on in addiction recovery I learned that expectations pave the way to relapse. However, this concept can be applied to any aspect of your life and assist in living a happier life. When your whole life changes, expect curveballs in life my friends!

Give It Your All & Love What You Do!

Life is too short to stay in a dead-end career or lifestyle that brings no joy or fulfillment. But in order to find a way to love what you do, you’re going to need to get outside of your comfort zone. Moreover, trying new things and challenging yourself to raise the bar is essential to live a Steve Jobs life! Try not to compare who you are to others though. Having role models and mentors is a powerful necessity to success. However, work at being confident in your own unique abilities. There’s only one of you and that’s awesome. Perspective is Important!

It’s human nature to have knee jerk reactions to unexpected events or fear. But why do we go to worst case scenarios, if only in our heads? Basically, we forget to just breathe and draw on past experiences. Perspective is important to remember when traversing the mountains and valleys of life. I opened up this article by mentioning life has been a little stressful lately. And in many aspects of my life, I’m a bit of a late bloomer. Do you struggle with negative thinking? Well, coming from a troubling background and dysfunctional family, it’s been something I’ve had to deal with occasionally. Essentially, it’s the difference between being a glass half full and a glass half empty person. Just breathe and focus on the positive when you’re unsure about an outcome. Rather than expect the worst of a person or circumstance, control what you can and have faith that it will work out for the better. Unfortunately, you may not be able to fix your dilemma in the moment. Patience is a virtue very few people every truly master. Be Open to Possibilities!

When you confront the unknown and your whole life changes, just breathe and better surrender. Furthermore, this can bring peace in uncertainty. Sadly, too many people get stuck on a set outcome. There’s a lot of pressure in holding to rigid ideas about how the world should be. So, remain open to possibilities that you may have never considered. I often tell people my life landed me in places I never considered. In hindsight, just breathe should have been my mantra all along. Now, would I be sitting here writing this blog post if I my life went according to my plan? Who knows. To me it’s relaxing to stay out the results and let God guide me toward a future I never imagined. When you let and let God direct your path, you’ll get what you need in life, rather than what you think you want.

There is Always Hope!

So, I started this post with some encouragement. Don’t quit before the miracle happens. I actually share this phrase pretty often. It’s been on my mind recently because life has been trying. My wife and I have had a lot on our plate with being newlyweds and also expecting a new, baby boy in a few weeks. And it’s in these moments where it’s vital to believe that there is always hope. When the burdens of life seem too heavy, it’s essential to focus on the positive. Because life is never all bad. Even in the darkest of moments we can find happiness. This is a concept I learned early on in addiction recovery. Don’t quit before the miracle happens because you can get there one day at a time. So, think about any success you’ve experienced in your life. Did you get there over night? Most likely not. One day at a time you’ve done what it takes to arrive at your destination. Whether it was a job, degree, medical condition or a relationship, living in the moment and doing what it takes then, will help you realize that miracle. Firstly, if you’re here on this site and looking for some motivation, thanks so much for your presence! Do not lose hope my friends! With contrast comes clarity so being put through the gauntlet will be for your experience. Unfortunately, we live in a society that wants everything at the click of a button. Your time on this earth will be a struggle my friends. So, with contrast comes clarity is at the heart our existence while living day to day. Moreover, I’ve come to look at this struggle being between two opposing forces. Shoot, we can even call it a battle between good and evil. If you’re a believer, you can view it in the lens that God is trying to guide us to peace while the adversary is attempting to drag us down to pain and misery. And he’ll keep you down there if you let him. With contrast comes clarity in those moments when you’re tempted to throw in the towel but call on a power greater than yourself and rise from the ashes to feel the sunlight of happiness and comfort.

So, it’s come to my attention that a lot of people look at success and assume it came easily. I grew up in the era of Michael Jordan and worshipped NBA players. Furthermore, even the greatest of all have had to trudge through life, experience failure after failure and encounter much doubt along the way.
