Xbox One games for teens is something I recently took an interest in after becoming a bonus dad and getting married this year. However, you’d be surprised the things you pick up on from teens. It provides interesting insight into what makes kids tick nowadays and helps me write cool blog posts that benefit you. So, after sitting next to my son as he plays the latest and greatest, day after day, I’m pleased to bring you a handful of the best games for teens in 2023. This is according to what I’ve noticed him playing and picking his brain about what his friends are into as well. Enjoy and share!

Fortnite for Xbox One

The other night I sat down to tuck my boy in, and we both became curious as to whether Fortnite or Minecraft was more popular-we’ll get to that latter in this article. So, according to the internet, Fortnite has taken over global popularity with 52% of countries. But if you’re unfamiliar with this video game, it looks super fun and nostalgic. It’s set up as a battle royale game that you can play solo or with a team online. This game is for teens, so you won’t have to worry about your them being exposed to blood or gore. However, they do pick up weapons and various other objects to takeout the opponents. The cool part is the never-ending selection of skins or characters your kids can play with. The creators have added every theme you can image, from Star Wars to Transformers and Marvel characters.

Minecraft

Minecraft is on this list of Xbox One games for teens because it’s virtually impossible to pull your kid away from it! Surprisingly my teen boy sat and built a room with different colored sheep for a whole day. At least he expressed some guilt for doing nothing else. The Minecraft website calls it a “sandbox game” due to the fact that you can play it so many different ways. The game has a unique retro look. And the blocks that you use to create your own world are cool. I never noticed my boy interacting with other characters. However, the site states you can venture off and take on challenges of some sort. This game is for everyone and does not seem to be difficult. Though, I haven’t actually played it myself, full disclosure.

Call of Duty Franchise

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about the Call of Duty series or “COD” as my bonus son says the cool kids are calling it. Without a doubt, this classic is a legendary Xbox One game for teens they’ll get caught up in for days! Just don’t let your teen skip homework, chores or responsibilities! There are currently 21 different Call of Duty games, beginning with WW2 themes back in 2003. The most recent version is Modern Warfare 2. Most of these games are rated M for mature so you’ll want to watch these for blood and violence.

MLB The Show 23 for Xbox One

MLB “The Show 23” is the leagues official game for this year. Honestly, I would have played this game when I was a kid. The graphics for consoles nowadays are far superior to the Bases Loaded game for Nintendo that came out in the 90s. Also, there is a function in the game that enables your teen to design his own player from head to toe. Obviously, me and my boy were rolling over the details you can create in your slugger! The controller and interplay functions seem relatively technical. However, as with any game, the more you practice and play, the easier it will undoubtedly become for the gamer. This game is for everyone. So, if you’re an old school gamer like me, you’re going to enjoy jumping and swinging for the fence with your kiddos.

Forza Horizon 4

Forza Horizon 4 is a blast and must if you’re looking for the best Xbox One games for teens. I did jump in a play with my teen son because I couldn’t resist the rush of taking a Bugatti to almost 200mph! When I was younger, my brothers and I played an older version of Forza on a PlayStation. In this version, a gamer can collect over 450 cars, get Hot Wheels legends pack or become a Horizon superstar in historic Britain. A player can go solo or team up with other drivers as well. I noticed a story mode where my boy appeared to be in a movie mode and on a mission before a crazy jumping stunt. This game is a ton of fun for your teen gamer.

Cuphead

Undoubtedly, you’re probably wondering what in the world is “Cuphead”. Well, it is inspired by cartoons of the 1930s and reminds me of the old Mickey Mouse classics, in black and white. The Cuphead website describes it as: the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era: traditional hand drawn cell animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Think of this weird game as a “run and gun” theme. And it is very difficult, to be honest. I tried a couple of times myself and handed the controller back to my teen boy in frustration. Just like Super Mario Bro, there is no shortage of scary boss characters to take out. This game is for everyone. However, this Xbox One game for teens may seem weird at first, it’s surprisingly addictive and difficult to put down the controller once you’ve mastered the game.

Surely cool hobbies for teens may seem like a random blog post. However, when it comes to life, we’re all a product of what we’re surrounded by and I share a house with a tween, almost teenager. And he’s got a lot going and it’s tough trying to keep up with his latest obsession. If you’re reading this article, you may be able to identify with what I’m going to share or talk about. Undoubtedly teenagers know what’s cool and they get what’s cool from their friends, social media or what they see when you take them to the store. So, in this article, I’m going to break down some cool hobbies for teens based on what my bonus son says is cool.

Cool Hobbies for Teens and Inspiration on Audible!

Gaming Hobby

Gaming has and will be a cool hobby for teens probably forever. So, if you’re my age, you most likely came up playing Nintendo or Sega. Nowadays there seems to be a battle between the Xbox and PlayStation tribes. My teen bonus son says the Xbox wins out. But the latest popular game and cool hobby for teens seems to be Fortnite. When I get home at night, he usually has his headset on and is talking trash with his buddies online. However, I do see him breakout Minecraft on occasion and build stuff-it makes no sense whatsoever. Because he’s into sports, I’ve seen him go through a NBA2K and MLB The Show phase as well. Legos

So, let me start here by talking about how crazy these Lego stores are! The other day at the mall, you’d think there was a celebrity in the building, signing autographs by the line outside the Lego store entrance. Legos is one of those cool hobbies for teens taking over the world! This store was straight stimulation overload with a design center, a Lego kit for everything you can imagine and workers who were way too nice. It was kind of creepy to be honest. But from the funny movies, with adult humor to the legendary Star Wars themed sets, the Lego hobby has most definitely consumed my bonus son’s life and can take a chunk out of your pocketbook too.

Marker Drawing Hobby

One of the cool hobbies for teens I didn’t realize existed are these high-priced markers for drawing. Now, I did take an art class in high school and really enjoyed it. We had all kinds of paint and oil pastels, but I don’t recall having fancy markers that really look like paint. However, it’s really cool that kids nowadays have access to art supplies that help them explore their creativity and try new fun hobbies. I’m a big fan of abstract thought the comes from using the right side of the brain. My boy is in the mode of drawing the latest cool sneakers and weird Sponge Bob looking collages. Tell your teen to give it a go!

Reading

This may be a no brainer, but reading is totally a cool hobby for teens. Maybe I’m just vicariously living through my stepson because we weren’t really pushed to read when I was growing up. Both of my parents went to a community college, so our home wasn’t loaded with encouragement to feed our minds. Teens nowadays have access to all kinds of book series such as “Spy School”, Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, of course. It’s cool to see a kid pull out a good book and read for a bit before going to bed at night. It’s not to say, sometimes you have to tell your kid to put the electronic device but there’s nothing like a budding teen working out his brain with an old-fashioned paper book.

Hot Wheels Hobby

When me and my son went to the grocery store the other day, he randomly appeared from the next isle with a Hot Wheel in hand. Yes, those cool little cars are still a collectable hobby for teenagers. I think he ended getting a Bugatti replica for a dollar and change. This experience sent me down memory lane because my brother and I had a ton of Hot Wheels growing up. After doing some investigation, I found out the little rascal has quite the collection as well. The cool thing about this teen hobby is that it’s a relatively inexpensive one. We could have picked 3 for $4 but we opted for one just to make the kid want for something.

Sports

Sports is a cool hobby for teens that will never go out of style. I look around at kids-and society as a whole-and see an increasingly overweight and obese population. Getting outside and doing activities like sports is a great way to get your teen boy some exercise and human interaction. My bonus son is really into baseball and a decent little pitcher. He’s played a couple of seasons of basketball as well, which is an awesome cardiovascular activity for teenagers. Soccer or football are also cool ways to get your teen boy off the couch and outside to get some Vitamin D and boost their metabolism!

Hiking Hobby

Hiking is one of those cool hobbies for teens that puts them outside and boosts their metabolism. This hobby could fall under sports because your teen is actually doing something, but hiking involves getting off the grid and enjoying nature. I grew up on a farm of 100 acres, away from the city center, noise and business. Unfortunately, most people and their teens reside within an urban center. How often do these kids get to burn up a mountain trail? Well, if you don’t get out of the city too often, probably not that much. Plan some weekend activities with your teen boy that puts them in touch with nature and smelling some country air. He may whine and complain at first but will thank you when it’s over.

There are plenty of cool hobbies for teens out there in 2023. The list above is compiled of some observations I’ve had as a dad and through the eyes of a teen boy, going into manhood. So, you’re probably reading this article because you’ve got a teen boy in your life and you’re on the hunt for some haircut ideas. Though I’m not a hairstylist, I do consider myself to be somewhat of an expert on teen boy haircut ideas for several reasons. First of all, I grew up in the epic 90s where versions of today’s styles originated. For the record, 90s culture was the height of American culture, full stop! Also, I’m a man who has at least tried some version of these hairstyles at some point in my life. And lastly, I have experience being a father to tween and teen boys who think they’re cool for their hairstyle my generation obviously is to blame for. Having given you my credibility for taking on such a topic, here are 9 teen boy haircut ideas, in no particular order.

Teen Boy Haircut Ideas & Audible!

The Undercut

Longer haircuts are most definitely making a comeback in 2023. The undercut is absolutely a popular teen boy haircut idea, also referred to as the combover. It seems like older teens are gravitating to this hairstyle and is reminiscent of young Leo in the 90s, minus the longer sides of course. If this style gets any longer, your teen may be rocking the man bun, as the short sides go hand in hand with that style.

The Side Part

My brother is a hair stylist and used to rant about the “tight fades” he could do. The short sides that go along with the side part are absolutely a popular style idea among the younger tween boys I see my 12-year-old hanging out with. This may come with a permanent “hard part” that gives the illusion that your teen boy’s hair is always parted. It’s convenient but takes some time and a good, patient stylist or barber to help you through the growing out process. This style can be more comfortable in hot summer months, when it’s muggy outside.

The Buzzcut

The buzzcut is a low maintenance, haircut idea for teen boys, as it may not require as much styling. It has elements of the side part in that this style is shorter on the sides. I’ve seen boys put a hard part on the side as well and go much shorter on top too. Your teen boy can grow it a little longer as well and possibly use some gel or pomade to give it some flare. This will offer more comfort in the summer months as there’s clearly less hair on your teen boy’s head. However, I’ve noticed with my bonus son who’s currently rocking a mix of the buzzcut and combover, frequent trips to the stylist or barber may be required to keep it fresh.

The Textured Crop

The textured crop style seems to be more popular among older teens and a more relaxed, unkempt hairstyle. As teen boys become more confident and independent, this style gives off a rebellious vibe and says “don’t tell me what to do”. How do I know? Well, I was a teen boy circa 96′ doing my thing with a long, medium-length due. My dad hated it and constantly complained about the need to chop it off. I’ve seen teen boys put styling products in the textured crop as well to give it a wet look. Depending on the curl, this style could resemble the perm, which we’ll get into shortly.

The Mullet Style

You’ll notice in the picture above the teen boy with the mullet has a big grin on his face. If you were around for the 90s you probably remember a one-hit-wonder artist by the name of Billy Ray Cyrus. I feel as if he put the mullet on the map. However, I do recall being at one of my older boys’ basketball games and literally seeing half the players on the court with one form of the mullet or other. It is back without a doubt. And you have to give the kid rocking it kudos because it does take confidence. If your teen boy decides he wants a “Billy Ray” mullet, just smile because it shouldn’t last too long.

The faux hawk

The faux hawk-supposed to be a version of the mohawk-is probably the least popular of the teen boy haircut ideas on this list. This was popular back in the 2000’s during the boy band era of the times. However, you will see this in the teen boy scene, it’s more likely to resemble the side part and undercut but shorter. The style in the picture above is a bit extreme. And it’s ironic that the frosted, blonde tips are making a comeback. Again, it’s another style that 90’s made big! Yep, we own that.

The Shaggy Cut

The shaggy cut is a highly popular teen boy haircut nowadays. When I see young kids rockin’ the shaggy cut, I think of old pictures of my dad back in the 70s sporting the bell-bottom jeans and butterfly collared shirts. Man, don’t you wish you could’ve lived back then? This style is more difficult to flaunt if your boy has fine, straight hair. As previously mentioned, I do have first-hand experience with hair styles because I evolved through versions of each style on this list. I tried for years to grow my hair out to resemble the shaggy cut or something longer, but it wasn’t in the cards. This style requires more coarse, wavy hair to be manageable and look good. At any rate, give it the old college try!

The Middle Part

The middle part is becoming one of the more popular haircut ideas for teen boys. If you recall, the legendary Leonardo Dicaprio was set as the image for this article, setting the precedent for what the middle part should look like. Some teen boys will shave the sides up under and put it up in a ponytail, especially if it’s in that awkward phase where it gets in your face. Back in the 90s we called this “the bowl cut” and here it is again in 2023. Like the shaggy cut, a boy having more coarse, wavy hair makes this style more appealing and manageable.

The Perm

In my opinion, the perm is like the mullet, and shouldn’t even be a style. However, it’s 2023, and like the rest of society being all mixed up, so is the perm. My ex-wife said this actually is a thing after I saw a picture of my daughter with her boyfriend of the time. My sister, who’s an ex-hair stylist, explained how you can make the perm curls tighter or looser. I imagine, this would require more work depending on how curly your teen boy’s hair is to begin with. Perming hair can also cause damage to healthy hair. As mentioned before, the perm shouldn’t be a style but is. I’m pretty sure Justin Timberlake permed out back in the 2000s. And I digress.
