So, I read this quote I posted on my Facebook page recently and felt the need to elaborate on it a bit. But why should you listen to me? Well, I’ve had to remind myself to just breathe frequently, as of late. I’m newly married and my wife is due to give birth to our son in just a few weeks. Therefore, I’ve found it’s important to focus on the bigger picture when you’re confronted with temporary stress or problems. Like Johnny Depp said, ‘it’s just a bad day, not a bad life’. Just breathe, focus on what’s important & live a happier life!

Perspective is Important!

It’s human nature to have knee jerk reactions to unexpected events or fear. But why do we go to worst case scenarios, if only in our heads? Basically, we forget to just breathe and draw on past experiences. Perspective is important to remember when traversing the mountains and valleys of life. I opened up this article by mentioning life has been a little stressful lately. And in many aspects of my life, I’m a bit of a late bloomer. When feelings, personalities and lack of sleep get in the mix, it’s important to consider the future when reacting. Specifically, considering your significant other’s feelings and desires need to be a foremost priority, especially when life piles up. So, just breathe, pick your battles and think about tomorrow or next week. Will it really be an issue then?

Focus On the Positive & Forget the Bad!

Do you struggle with negative thinking? Well, coming from a troubling background and dysfunctional family, it’s been something I’ve had to deal with occasionally. Essentially, it’s the difference between being a glass half full and a glass half empty person. Just breathe and focus on the positive when you’re unsure about an outcome. Rather than expect the worst of a person or circumstance, control what you can and have faith that it will work out for the better. Unfortunately, you may not be able to fix your dilemma in the moment. Patience is a virtue very few people every truly master. Just breathe and ask yourself what is important to you, your loved ones and future. It will be alright in the end my friends!

Be Open to Possibilities!

When you confront the unknown and your whole life changes, just breathe and better surrender. Furthermore, this can bring peace in uncertainty. Sadly, too many people get stuck on a set outcome. There’s a lot of pressure in holding to rigid ideas about how the world should be. So, remain open to possibilities that you may have never considered. I often tell people my life landed me in places I never considered. In hindsight, just breathe should have been my mantra all along. Now, would I be sitting here writing this blog post if I my life went according to my plan? Who knows. To me it’s relaxing to stay out the results and let God guide me toward a future I never imagined. When you let and let God direct your path, you’ll get what you need in life, rather than what you think you want.

As I read these spiritual growth quotes in this article, I pause and reflect on what it actually means to be spiritual? Well, many may draw on a connection to God or a higher power. Drawing on a source of peace and hope in a chaotic world is at the heart of spiritual growth. However, this is not a passive process by any means. Progress requires constant attention to weakness and character defects. And it’s really easy to get distracted by the minutia in life. It’s hard to find more inspiring hero quotes than those of the legendary Rocky Balboa. I love to quote him often because I truly relate to him for some reason. Maybe it’s because I didn’t come from much and have had to fight for everything I have in my life. The YouTube video posted above is my favorite-I can almost rehearse it word for word. So, it’s come to my attention that a lot of people look at success and assume it came easily. I grew up in the era of Michael Jordan and worshipped NBA players. Furthermore, even the greatest of all have had to trudge through life, experience failure after failure and encounter much doubt along the way. When something smacks you in the face, you’re forced to re-evaluate your mortality, whether you like it or not. Along with researching what folks reported regretting about life on their death bed, going all in has accompanied this mantra. So, part of living without regrets means you’re not out to check off boxes to be happy. But what’s the alternative? Well, this means I’m dedicating my time, attention and energy to every moment! If people are part of my life, setting down the electronic devices to practice social skills and learning from others becomes a priority. I can live life without regrets by fully committing to the moment, person or opportunity, whether it’s positive or negative. Regardless of what life puts in front of me, there is always value, if I choose to look for it. Committing to anything God’s grace provides, will make the journey more abundant, thus taking my focus off of some future destination or aforementioned “box”.

In conclusion, in order to live life without regrets, you have to remain constantly self-aware. Consequently, when reforming any mindset, patience is essential. It’s possible that aiming for quality over quantity is a sign of developing wisdom. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years”. Surely, this is at the heart of how to live life without regrets! I read a story about a man who picked flowers every morning and placed them on his belated wife’s grave. And one day his daughter came along to visit her grave only to hear her father say, “I just wish I had picked her flowers every day while she was alive”. So, live life without regrets! Whether it’s spending more time with family, working less or just enjoying the journey, don’t let life pass you by!
